Yee claims snooker gold

Written by Ben Blaschke

Hong Kong prodigy Ng On Yee ha snapped the decade-long dominance of England’s Reanne Evans to win the Ladies’ Snooker World Championship in Leeds.

The 24-year-old Yee, who won the 2009 and 2010 World Amateur Championships, produced a stunning performance in which she dropped just four frames in her final four matches to claim the prestigious title.

Her 6-2 win over Evans, who had won the World Championships 10 years running between 2005 and 2014, was particularly impressive given the latter very nearly qualified for the men’s event – losing narrowly to former world champion Ken Doherty 10-8 in qualifying.

Yee had previously won a gold medal in the teams event at the 2010 Asian Games.
