Singapore Pools launches online betting

Written by Ben Blaschke

Singapore Pools has officially launched its online betting service. Along with Singapore Turf Club, the gaming company was last month granted an exemption from the Remote Gambling Act (RGA) upon the condition it met strict criteria including operating on a not-for-profit basis, having its surpluses channelled to social and charitable causes and keeping its services free from “criminal influence.”

As of this week, Singapore Pools now offers 4D and Toto as well as sports betting on sports such as football and Formula 1. Casino style games remain illegal.

Singapore Turf Club has announced that its online offerings will be launched on 15 November.

The decision to exempt the two companies from the RGA has been a controversial one, however the government has stated its belief that it is better to offer online gaming in a “managed space” than to leave organized crime syndicates to do so instead.

The current exemption certificates are valid for three years.
