The who’s who of Macau’s VIP social and entertainment scenes…
The awards season continues to bring glitz and glamor to the shores of Macau. Just two months after some of the world’s biggest stars attended the Huading Awards, the Venetian again took centre stage as Asia’s finest talent gathered for the 9th Asian Film Awards.
Jermaine Jackson – former member of the Jackson 5 and brother of legendary singer Michael Jackson – was a special guest at the event while the likes of Aaron Kwok, Anthony Wong, Ivana Wong, Takeru Satoh and Korean boy band Infinite were among the stars to walk the red carpet.
The Asian Film Awards is presented by the Hong Kong International Film Festival Society and has been held annually since 2007 to recognize the best in the Asian film industry. This year’s big winners included Liao Fan for Best Actor, Bae Doo-na for Best Actress and Anne Hui for Best Director.
Fans of musicals were in for a treat in March with one of the most famous shows of all time, Cats, lighting up the Venetian Theatre with its dazzling choreography and unmistakeable costume designs. The cast and crew performed 13 shows in 10 days during their first ever trip to Macau with the audience left in no doubt as to why Cats ran for an incredible 18 years on Broadway.
And the local art community was offered a unique opportunity to learn from one of the best with MGM Macau hosting an exhibition of contemporary Portuguese artist Joana Vasconcelo’s work as well as two “Meet the artist” workshops. More than 80 aspiring artists heard stories about Vasconcelo’s journey and inspirations before having the opportunity to ask her questions and exchange ideas.
