Journey to Italy

Written by Wendi Song

Italian restaurant Bene has launched its Food & Wine Mercato, a unique weekend market providing an authentic Italian experience.

Since May this year, Bene – the Italian trattoria at Sheraton Grand Macao Hotel – has held the Bene Food & Wine Mercato, an interactive wine and dinner experience inspired by the colorful markets across Italy. The concept aims to take guests on a culinary journey to a different region of Italy each month in search of authentic Italian flavors.

The first of its kind in Macau, the Bene Food & Wine Mercato celebrates a variety of culinary traditions and authentic flavors. Sourcing products from different regions across Italy, Bene offers the finest delicacies and specially selected wines for gourmands.

Each month’s menu is designed by Luca Pecorari, the Italian Executive Sous Chef of Bene, who specializes in creating modern yet authentic Italian cuisines. The menus feature different but specialized signature dishes and pastries from various regions all over the contry, along with meticulously handpicked wines from Amorosso Fine Wines, Bene’s partner of the month.

Guests are invited to browse the interactive cooking stations among wine professionals and fresh food producers throughout the evening. Mercato also boasts a variety of artisanal retail products for sale, allowing guests to recreate classic Italian fare at home.

The interactive Food & Wine Mercato is hosted at Bene during the last weekend (Friday to Sunday) of every month from 18:00 to 23:00.

Since its inception, Bene has provided guests with regional cuisine from Tuscany, Friuli, Lombardia, Piemonte and Liguria. In November, Valle d’Aosta – a mountainous autonomous region in northwestern Italy – will be featured.
