From the CEO (#27)

Written by Andrew W Scott

It seems like just yesterday we were planning to launch WGM, but with the clock ticking over to 2014 it represents the start of our 5th year of publishing in Macau! Happy New Year to all our readers!

WGM#27 is certainly an action packed mag! Where do I start? At the beginning I suppose. I take a crack at some crystal ball gazing with an analysis piece on the Macao Gaming Show and the state of gaming industry trade shows in Macau – we now have two of them in MGS and the long-established G2E Asia. Which will prevail? Turn two pages to read all about it.

This issue also sees the start of our “Power People” series of interviews of Macau’s biggest movers and shakers. Who better to start with than Mr Edward Tracy, CEO of Sands China Ltd. The Tiger chips in with a piece on the Slot Experience Center at MGS, and then we turn our attention to sport where Football Editor Leanne Lu explains the comeback of those European Red Devils from Belgium. We also take a look at a fascinating hypothetical horseracing matchup between two undefeated runners – Frankel and Black Caviar.

Our Managing Editor and poker guru Ben Blaschke gives us his take on how long to play cash games and we take a easy-on-the-eye look at the beautiful and talented Ngok Mei, a favorite poker player on the Macau tourney scene. Of course Ronny Railbird has his usual Railbird Report but he gets an extra page to honor WGM’s very own Michael Mariakis’ victory in the recent Asia Championship of Poker. Someone check the video!

Our Macau lifestyle editor Yuci Tai gives us her usual Out and About in Macau, The Panda munches some noodles and The Stallion finds somewhere in Taipa for a drink after 5, but I have left the best for last! Finally it is time for our WGM Model Search I Final which will be held on 12 February 2014 at the Bellini Lounge at the Venetian Macao – for details including your chance to win double tickets to the night turn to page 24 right now!

Have a wonderful Chinese New Year and see you all again in March!

Follow the dragon,
Andrew W Scott
