Baseball is back

Written by James Potter

The baseball is back which is great news for those of us with plenty of time to kill! There are games on every day of the week so it’s a great way for sporting tragics like us to get their fix. The only problem I have is that some of the regular season can become a bit boring because there are so many games, but that’s baseball and who am I to criticize “America’s favorite pastime?”

If you are interested in having a punt on who will win the World Series you can find some incredible value with around 10 teams between 10/1 and 20/1 in the betting. It’s amazing that there appear to be no absolute standouts in the betting this year. Let’s have a look at some of the fancied starters.

American League

Detroit Tigers (10/1) – The team that promised so much last year but failed to jump the final few hurdles. The struggling town of Detroit needs something to cheer about and will have their fingers crossed for the Tigers. They have plenty of depth and Justin Verlander is a total gun on the mound.

New York Yankees (12/1) – The Manchester United of baseball and one of those clubs that is always there come finals time because they have a bankroll bigger than Donald Trump’s. By their standards, the Yankees had a fairly poor season last year and are an aging team. Many of the experts don’t think they are going to be a threat this year. They will need CC Sabathia to fire up on the mound.

Los Angeles Angels (12/1) – The Angels are my team because they are great to watch. They love drama and always seem to win in the ninth innings. They have a great list so as usual it will come down to whether or not they click. Their young gun Mike Trout is the one they will be hoping can hit it out of the park.

Roughie: Tampa Bay Rays at 25/1 could be a good bet, especially if the Yankees and the Red Sox struggle.

National League

Washington Nationals (10/1) – The Nationals are a remarkable story. The one-time whipping boys are now up in the first line of betting and considered a real chance of going all the way. It might come down to their gun pitcher Stephen Strasburg and how many games he starts.

Cincinnati Reds (12/1) – The Reds are another franchise that has spent a long time in the wilderness but things are starting to click in Ohio and they look like the sort of team that could quietly get the job done.

San Francisco Giants (20/1) – The team from the Bay and current World Champions are a great outfit. They weren’t expected to win last year and will only be better for the experience this time around so they look like great value.

The Atlanta Braves (15/1) – The Braves are already off to a flyer and eying a berth in the playoffs. Their list isn’t the strongest on paper but fairytales do happen.
