Australian man wins tropical island resort for AU$65

Written by Ben Blaschke

Many of us have dreamed of living out their days on a warm tropical island, but one Australian man looks set to do just that after winning his own Pacific Island resort in a raffle!

The man, named only as Joshua, purchased the AU$65 ticket as part of a global raffle and beat out tens of thousands of other entrants to claim the top prize – a 16 room resort on the Micronesian Island of Kosrae located roughly halfway between Australia and Hawaii.

The previous owner, Doug Beitz, and his wife built the Kosrae Nautilus Resort in 1994 and had originally planned to sell it to the highest bidder until their sons devised the clever plan to raffle it off instead.

It comes debt free, remains profitable and has 20 years remaining on its current lease. As yet there has been no word on whether Joshua will relocate to his new desert island home.
